Just adding about the last sentence of "stone cold" in the eastern or northern Europe, well, that's something I also supposed before visiting those places. But it is not like that, just a kind of prejudice. What I can say about them is that they have a different culture according to the southern I also belong. It might be strange for us that they dont kiss at first time in cheeks or that they seem a bit distrustful at first with people they dont know, but once you become close with them and they accept you and think about you as a friend, they are very very warm people, and they will do everything for you (of course I say IN GENERAL). But I know what I am talking about.
By the way, I belong as well to a southern country, Spain, and I also dont feel so proud of being spanish sometimes. There is nothing bad in finding critisism about your own people and culture.

I've been to Sicily becore. It was a while back now. I can't speak for the Italians in Italy or the people who call themselves Italians with no true Italian blood in their veins but I can speak of the Italians here. My arguement still stands. In this country we are proud of are jobs, family, friends and lifestyle. These are all good things to me. Being proud is not a negative thing, it is a good thing. It means you have soul, heart and love for things. Emotional is what you may call us, because we sure ain't stone cold like most of eastern Europe.

Agree once again with Marcello.
One question for Fabio: Have you ever been in Italia or met italians nowadays around Europe? It might be that the way of behaving is different from what you know.

Well thanks Marcello. I repeat I can't say all italians are that way. It's not fair to think the same about a whole country, cause I want to think there are better and worst people everywhere. I have met some people from Italia that are not like that and they deserve the benefit of the doubt about the rest. But it is true that they were so few compared with the rest that all the internationals I shared my life with developed quite an apathy about that nationality.
The short examples I wrote are a little portion of all the experiences I had. Right now I am recalling another one that I think it is hardly unbeatable: on Christmas'06 we were few people remaining in Tallinn. Most of the people left to their respective countries to join their families, but some few stayed there, me included. I was pretty expectant and excited to know and to learn how different would be the Christmas time in a Northern-East country.
At that time, we had what we called the "italian flat": a flat in the center of the city where they had some parties and invited all the internationals to go there, sometimes more and sometimes less succesfully, but we went massively to those parties at the beginning of the academic year. It was ok, cause they were living in the center and the rest on the surrounding area, so after some drinks there we didnt have to walk too much to go out in the city.
Well, those 4 italian guys, who were quite "friends" of all of us in general, started to think that a Christmas Dinner in their flat would be great with the few remaining people. A positive and kind idea in a happy and kind season, you might think... We thought the same, and quickly that idea started to run from mouth to mouth "yeeeeeh seems they want to make an international christmas' eve dinner with the people staying.. greeeat... ".... Till... the day they sent the official invitations, 2 days before the dinner... and JUST to the remaining girls and the estonian girls who were our voluntaries. You can guess our surprised faces (the rest of the guys)... and even more the surprised faces of the girls, who were thougth to arrange a party for "italians & girls".
That way they would be 4 guys for 10 girls... impossible to fail, right? XD
well, my girlfriend at that time was also in their "magical possible flirting list", as the girlfriend of another one, they were more angry than me and my friend who were laughing saying "these people are just not normal".
When my gf and the other girls knew about the "kind" intentions of the italians they obviously refused the invitation and tried to leave them alone, preparing everything just one day before the Christmas Eve with us (who really thought we would be part of that dinner, so we hadn't bougth anything). That way, the previous day of the Christmas Eve we were running buying food, drinks and decorative stuff for our party. At the moment of the dinner, can you guess who were calling at the door and passing inside like nothing happened and of course not being invited to anything? "ciaaaaaaao why those faaaaaces, let's drink for the holidays, what do you have there? vodka?" (...)
I really think this is the most awful story I have had with italians, due the way of behaviour, the season, the anger in the faces of all... but as I told, I have many more... and not just with those 4 guys.
Hope Fabio understands better now my point of view and my distrust.

Enlil, maybe your just upset because no Italians came up to you and said one of their corny lines. Is it possible that this could be true. Now as far as travelling goes, I've been a few places. Maybe not as much as yourself, but I've seen and heard nothing but good things when it comes to my culture. As a Canadian-Italian I might have different experiences than what you've witnessed. Let me tell you this. If it was not for the Italian community that is here in this country, we would be well behind many of the world leaders. They have built this country to what it is. In fact, they have made the Americas what it is today. An important part of the world. So be carefull who you compare us to.

So enlil you are absolutely right.

What do I recommend? I dont need to recommend anything to anyone. I just base my words in my own experiences and shared experiences with more internationals. In fact most of the people who shared my international year in the north of Europe have the same thinking about people of your country. I was insulted even by some russian teenagers when they saw me in a McDonalds in Tartu (Estonia) who told me showing the middle finger telling me "fuck you italian"; estonian girls had jokes about italians and their "too hot" mind. Seems that many didnt see a girl in their whole life and behave thinking with their "lower head" too much and were showing off like children they are proudly italians. I remember very well one of those jokes that some girls were gathering to go out and one of them told: "let's go out to Hollywood!" (Hollywood is a disco in Tallinn were international students used to go) and the others said "Hollywood??? shit! that's full of italians! no way!". I have seen how italians were approaching to estonian girls and how they even kicking them out were once and again trying and touching and caressing and so on... Thing that embarrased all of the rest of internationals quite a lot. I have also seen how the way of approaching of one italian to them was: "Ciao, I am italian" even before than saying his name (which is so funny and ridiculous XD), thing which girls used to make strange face and say.. "and...??" ....
I have loads and loads of anecdotes outside and inside my country in the last 3 years that I have been voluntary for outsiders. I am not saying you are like that, but because of all those experiences, I ended not trusting in someone who says "I am italian"
I DON'T say EVERYONE is the same cause that would be a total nonsense, but I can say that BASED IN MY EXPERIENCE I want to be far from italians in general cause I DIDN'T and DON'T find anything trustable in them.
Energy in this? We are just chatting as I chat with my other national and international friends, just an opinion and a feedback. I suppose you dont like it but I cant do anything towards that.
Get a life? Hahah funny. I have lived and I'm living enough and with enough intensity, travelled and met hundreds of friends all over the world. Maybe you should travel a bit and explore what others think about your male colleages of Italia.
