“The Ambassador Extraordinaire of ugly dogs everywhere”
SAM is the three times, undefeated champion of the “World’s Ugliest Dog” contest (2003, 2004, 2005), well, who could defeat him? Most unfortunately he was put down due to heart complications as he was close to reach ultimate fame along with 15 years of age.
“I’ve got a little itch there”
Susie Lockheed took him in as a rescue dog in 1999 and made an internet star out of him, followed by some screen appearances.
“Feed me a cookie and I’ll give you a kiss”
He is so special, he sports his own page on wikipedia although one would prefer it a little more elaborated.
“Is my lower lip a little crooked?”
Sam was a purebred Chinese Crested Hairless although if one performs a little bit of research on this particular breed he won’t find many dogs resembling this nature’s oddity.
“All this attention got me tired”

The article says something about this breed not being so bad and that Sam was an odd case, not true, most ugliest dog competitions are won by Chinese or Japanese cresteds (with a few exceptions). Not all cresteds are bad, and I think Sam was cute in his own way.
Well, I was the owner of SAM, World’s Ugliest Dog, and although he loved me very much, it was sometimes hard for others to get around him. He certainly had his moments! He gave us a lot of pleasure, though. From trips to New York (from Santa Barbara) to limos to Hollywood, for three years during his reign, it was exciting. I treated him as well as any animal (or human!) is treated. He ate specially prepared food and got the best medical care. I do miss my SAM! My husband and I have opened SAM’s Doggie Dude Ranch in SAM’s honor. It is a cage-free boarding facility on a large ranch where, if the owners approve, the dogs go out on long runs with me leading the way (well, I’m in a Polaris Ranger). @Susie : Thank you for stopping by Susie, it’s probably hard to lose a dog and I’m sure everyone feels the same (our dog just turned 7 today). I just want you to know that I did not intend to make any kind of mockery out of Sam and I’m sure he was a beautiful dog in his own way, like all of them are.

Are you kidding! I am not upset at all. SAM LOVED the lemelight and was such a GREAT comedian. During interviews he ALWAYS growled with perfect toming. His best clip ever is from Carson Daly. I need to get that up on YouTube. It is TRULY hilarious as Varson is afraid of most dogs…
